QuietColumn makes planners, journals and everyday goods for people whose attention moves fast — the ones who think in bursts, work in bursts, and have been quietly failed by every hour-by-hour planner they've ever bought.
The idea
Most planning tools assume the problem is that you don't know what to do. Usually the problem is the opposite: you know exactly what to do, there are simply eleven of them and they all arrived at once.
So the design principle here is subtraction. Fewer boxes. Wider margins. One question a day instead of twenty-four rows. A page you can pick up after three weeks away without the book making you feel anything about the gap.
How it's made
Everything is designed in-house, in small deliberate batches. Layouts are built and typeset by hand, tested in print before anything ships, and revised when the printed page disagrees with the screen — which it often does.
Modern design tools, including AI-assisted ones, are part of that process, the same way a spellchecker or a typesetting program is. What isn't automated is the judgement: what goes on the page, what comes off it, and whether the finished thing is actually good enough to sell. Where a shop asks for AI use to be disclosed, it is.
Who's behind it
QuietColumn is a one-person studio, run alongside Artistry Snaps — original paintings, hand-drawn portraits and commissioned work. Two different practices, same hands. The books are written under the pen name Tessa Whitfield, which is the imprint the planners and journals carry.
